So, there were these things called the Crusades. It was decided that the Holy Land needed to be reclaimed, so lots of people set out on a number of these crusades to take it back. Some were more reputable than others (one was apparently led by a duck...), and lots of people ended up dying along the way. It was cool enough to be the subject of a recent movie starring Orlando Bloom!
